Zachary Chilson
Born April 2, 1995. Raised and lives in Minnesota. Graduated from Hastings High School in 2013. Went to Carthage College for a Studio Art BA. Started with wheel thrown Ceramics then moved into Nail Stippling Art in College in 2015.
I remember falling in love with Pointillism and was searching for interesting ways to apply this technique outside of pen and paper. The first one that I had made was a 4’ x 6’ piece, it had about 30,000 nails and took me about a year and a half on and off. It was a lot of trial and error i made a lot of mistakes but I have learned so much. I became addicted to the process, it has become so therapeutic and satisfying.
Most people have hammered a nail into a wall to hang something up, these are relatable and someone can imaging the time, effort and patience that these require. I cannot thing of a better symbol of labor than a hammer and a simple nail.
